Flexible Packaging
The flexible packaging market is the fastest growing packaging segment. Factors such as lower freight costs, appeal of standup pouches, and the convenience of reclosable features are contributing to this growth. Today, flexible packages are made from converting films which are complex structures consisting of many materials in blends and coextrusions.
Over the past few years the evolution of materials and coextrusion technologies has enabled innovations such as combining clarity and barrier as well as retortability into flexible package designs. Kraton® polymers can be used in these structures in a variety of ways. They provide clarity, toughness, elasticity, and compatibility. They can also be used to provide adhesion between layers or to alter the rates of transmission of gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide as well as moisture.
